THE BIG DOUBLE ESPRESSO NO NO!

Posted in cafe, city of fremantle, coffee, hospitality, Uncategorized by freoview on May 27, 2019

This is a friendly messages to all those baristas out there in Freo coffee paradise. It is about the big NO NO! when you are asked to make a double espresso.

It is a small request only but it makes a big difference to people like I who only drink double espresso.

Do NOT pour a double espresso into a large coffee cup that is made for Cappuccino, flat white, etc. If you fear double espresso does not fit in the small espresso cup-and you are wrong about that-pour the coffee into a small Macchiato glass instead, but NEVER in a BIG cup!

There are two reasons for this No No. It looks pretty stupid to get a huge cup with just a bottom full of coffee, and the double espresso cools down way too fast in a big cup, even more so because many cafes do not serve very hot coffee anyway.

Thanks you so much!

LOOKING FOR GREAT FREO BARISTAS

Posted in fremantle by freoview on October 31, 2012

I am impressed with how professional some Fremantle cafe owners take their coffee and the baristas they let loose on us innocent caffeine addicts. Last evening I was invited to be one of four judges to help select additional baristas for the Moore&Moore Cafe in Henry Street and we’ll do the same again on Thursday evening. Freo small business owner of the year Simon Naber decided that was the way to go, and what a caffeine overdose it was. I am still buzzing and hardly slept all night.

The Baristas on trial had to make us Espressos, Cappuccinos and a coffee of their choice which we tasted and scored from 1-10. Although all baristas were experienced some did much better than others and the Espressos were the big challenge with quite a few too bitter and burned.

Good to know that when the new baristas join the crew they have been tested and found good enough to make great coffees and of course there is always more training on the job at M&M.

FREO’S COFFEE FESTIVAL NOT TO BE MISSED

Posted in fremantle by freoview on October 24, 2012

If you love coffee as much as I do, you’ll love the second annual Fremantle Coffee Festival on Sunday, November 4, 10am-7pm.. It is organised by Fremantle Business Association (FBA) as part of Fremantle Festival.

The Coffee Festival is a celebration of Fremantle’s famous Cappuccino Strip and coffee culture Fremantle is famous for. There will be displays and samples from 11 coffee roasters, live entertainment, children’s activities and Gino’s spaghetti eating competition.

All local restaurants and traders are getting on board, offering plenty of food and drink to taste and lots of entertainment.

Popular coffee roasters such as Dimattina, Bonissimo, Rubra, Remedy, Brazilianno, Silvana and more will be offering their best coffee blends. You will be able to sample the coffee for a gold coin donation or buy a bag of beans to take home.
Children can enjoy face painting, storytelling, balloon making, a climbing wall, bouncy castle and a visit from Fat Cat. Local bands will be entertaining the crowd all day from the main stage.
We’ll also have Fremantle Dockers and South Fremantle football players signing autographs.

Everyone joining the Coffee Festival is asked to make a gold coin donation, which will go to the Telethon Adventurers, a great charity that funds research into childhood cancer.

The Barista competiton will also be held on the weekend at the Town Hall, so pop in there to see them sweat and makes lots of great coffees in just 15 minutes.
