OPENS TONIGHT!

Images of India is a fundraising exhibition by local photographer Juliet Murray.

The exhibition opens on Friday 16th March at 6.30pm at the Art of Freo Gallery at J Shed and runs Wednesday to Sunday 11-4pm until March 25th.  There will also be a fundraising raffle with heaps of great prizes.

India is a land of contrasts. It is a country that is immensely rich; in culture, spirituality and diversity. It is enchanting and beautiful place, overwhelming to the senses.

On the flipside, poverty is significant, with one on 5 living in extreme poverty, without access to basic human needs. Of the poor, only 20% have access to toilets, 60% to electricity and 6% to running water.

This fundraising exhibition aims to capture both the magnificence of this sacred country and it’s people whilst highlighting the issue of extreme poverty and struggles that the people face, in a compassionate and sensitive manner.

Proceeds from the exhibition will be donated to the Australian Friends of Asha, who work to support and raise awareness of the important work that is done by Asha India in tackling issues that keep slum dwellers trapped in poverty. Their programmes help slum residents gain access to healthcare, financial services and education, and make it possible for them to make long-term, positive changes to their lives.

Little Green Bear

There is a lovely event at the No4  LITTLE SPACE studio of Fremantle’s J SHED at Bathers Beach this Sunday from 1-4pm.

Enter from Fleet Street or walk through the Whalers Tunnel.

Join January and February as they embark on an epic adventure that takes them to strange new places and introduces them to wonderful new friends. Will they ever find December… or will their friend be lost forever?

Fremantle Author and Illustrator Chrissy Haywood of Little Green Bear Publishing invites you to an afternoon of community fun at the J-shed in Fremantle. We are celebrating the long-awaited arrival of “Finding Summer’ (a delightful tale of friendship and adventure) and we would love for you to join us!

Bring your picnic blanket and come and hang-out with us for an afternoon of celebrating shared literacy. There will be free kids activities, rock painting (as part of the WA ROCKS hide-and-seek craze), an art display of how the book was developed and a reading by the Author. And for those who need a quick cool off, the beach is right next door to the venue.

Little Green Bear Publishing have organised a free seed planting workshop with Lara from Plants For Friends and we’ll be expecting a visit from our mates at Coco Lycious to provide us with delicious, vegan ice-creams to top off the summer fun!

SUNDAY AUGUST 13. 5pm at Art of Freo / Little Space Freo at J Shed on Bathers Beach

There will be a live music event at Little Space on Sunday week, so go along and support this relatively new art venue.

Little Space Freo will host an acoustic performance by Harry Heart, who has just launched his new EP ‘Sun Follows’. Listen to Harry’s new songs in the same warehouse space where he recorded his EP earlier in the year.

Harry will be supported by Luke Fox, a coastal roots artist from Australia’s South West, and Duncan Saige, a singer-songwriter from Perth, with proceeds donated to Oxfam Australia

Following a wave of acclaim in Australia and the UK for the raucous rock track Baby Calm Down, and a year spent working closely with members of Bluejuice, The Snowdroppers and Glass Towers, Harry Heart retreated to J Shed inFremantle to piece together a soothing EP, titled Sun Follows.

Tickets $ 10.00 on sale NOW through Eventbrite HERE
