Message from Simone McGurk MLA, Member for Fremantle:

Sports clubs are a huge part of our Fremantle community.

If you’re a sports club with a project between $7,500 and $200,000, such as a storage upgrade or new practice wickets 🏏, be sure to lodge your application for the latest round of CSRFF small grants!

Applications are now open until the end of the month, and can be lodged at your local government.

To find out more information or to apply, visit https://www.dsr.wa.gov.au/f…/facilities-(csrff)/small-grants or contact my Fremantle office on 9336 7000.

Dockers women game

The first game of the season for the female Fremantle Dockers team last week was a huge success and a big win for our ladies, so head out to Fremantle Oval this Sunday to support them when they play Collingwood.

Entry is free and the game starts just after 3pm, so let’s create a big crowd of supporters!

EPIC JOURNEY FOR MODERN DESIGN

When you think about explorers, forget Burke and Wills, Dampier, Cook, Hartog, Tasman and Flinders and start thinking Loopy instead.

I double checked so that I would not claim anything that can’t be substantiated, but when I Googled epic journeys, the journey I just completed did not even appear, probably because it was far too daunting a task for even the bravest to contemplate.

So here I am claiming to be the very first person ever to have walked all the way from the Perth train station to the new Perth Stadium and back. I endured hardship in the East Perth wilderness where food and water were hard to find, and I suffered from exposure, heat stress and dehydration, but I survived.

And I endured all that because I love creative modern structures and needed to see the Matagarup Bridge over the Swan river with my own eyes, and it’s a beauty!

Yet, I pondered that one major question on the train back to my beloved Freo. If the State Government can build such and expansive and expensive new footbridge for a stadium that operates mainly on weekends, why can’t it build a much-needed new rail and traffic bridge at Fremantle that will be used 24/7?

MAD DOGS AND BATHERS BEACH FOOTBALL

beach soccer

It was officially 39 degrees when I took the photo of the Beach Football at Fremantle’s Bathers Beach today. It was probably hotter with the reflective heat of the sand, but that did not deter the male soccer players today, and the female ones played yesterday.

It is dead quiet in town and about a million vacant parking bays, so take advantage of it. ; > )

It is hot but very dry with little humidity so perfect weather for me.

It starts on Saturday with the women and mixed competition and on Sunday the blokes are kicking the round ball around.

It runs from 12 midday till 6pm on both days, so enjoy the outdoors and the Indian Ocean and have a meal in one of the many restaurants at the Fishing Boat Harbour.

DRAGONS WORLD SAILING CHAMPIONSHIPS IN FREMANTLE

Posted in city of fremantle, indian ocean, sailing, sport, Uncategorized by freoview on January 4, 2019

The 2019 Dragons World Sailing Championships started off the coast of Fremantle this morning and will continue until January 9.

Ten races will be held over the six days with some starting as early as 9.30 a.m, depending on the wind conditions, which were strong this morning.

The race course is similar to the one during the 1987 America’s Cup.

A fleet of 35 dragons will compete, which includes  15 international teams.

The event was a bit too far off the coast this morning for me to take photos, so I hope they’ll come a bit closer to the South Mole soon.

NEW FREMANTLE PARK CLUB HOME BUILDER

Fremantle_Park_community_sports_centre

It has been a frustratingly slow process for the clubs involved but the City of Fremantle will finally decide on Wednesday on the preferred tenderer to build the new $ 4.1 million clubhouse at Fremantle Park.

The company selected to build the new home for the Fremantle Workers Club, Fremantle Tennis Club and the Fremantle Bowling Club is McCorkell Constructions and that will be confirmed by the FPOL Committee of Fremantle Council.

Estimated start of construction is the first quarter of 2019 and completion in the last quarter of that year.
