Freo's View

kings square paving

It’s all fenced off and obscured from people observing the ‘secret’ pavement trial at Kings Square.

This is being done so Council can approve what the pavement at Kings Square will look like once the new Civic Centre has been built.

I had a peek over the fence to keep my Freo’s View readers in the loop.

Pity they didn’t give the yellow foil art a similar trial run !

Agree w Carl. In most places pavers are laid and stay centuries, acquiring the memories of
hundreds of thousands of footfalls. This creates the atmosphere of past along with present that gives a place atmosphere. Ripping them up once a decade because they are tatty is not the way to go. Get the expensive ones that will last longer than we can imagine.

Let’s hope they settle for a larger-format, monochrome paver, to more reflect the scale of the flag-stones in front of the old church say, than what we had previously. This was such a mish-mash of textures and colours. Let’s establish some considered civic design, rather than an Elizabeth Quay type approach.
Google the paving in front of Milan Cathedral.
