No, this is not an abstract painting by Loopy, and neither are they creatures from out of space!

There are thousands of these tiny jelly fish in the Fremantle Fishing Boat Harbour.  The seagulls are not much interested in them as they prefer fish&chips. Does anyone know their name by any chance?

I assume my underwater photographer mate Glen Cowans at the Round house will know.

We have always just called them ‘stingers’ – terrible in Geographe Bay in the summer time. The boys were swimming through them in the northern corner of Bathers Beach over the last couple of weekends.

Thanks Glen. They looked blue, but that was probably just from the sky above, so hence my curiosity.

Hi Roel, I am pretty sure they are not the deadly box jellyfish but a very similar species and they do have a very nasty sting. We often get big aggregations of these on our coast when the wind and wave conditions are very calm.
