FREDERICK SAMSON PARK NOT FOR SALE

Posted in city of fremantle, election, local government, Uncategorized by freoview on October 12, 2017

Fremantle Councillor Sam Wainwright is not happy with the scare campaign his election opponent Catherine Hammond is engaging in.

The Hilton Ward Councillor reported to Fremantle Council yesterday that Hammond had claimed in a flyer she has distributed that Council wants to sell off Frederick Samson Park and the Samson Recreation Centre for development.

Wainwright, who also reported the beat-up, authorised by Fremantle Society president John Dowson, to the Electoral Commission, stated there has never been a suggestion at Fremantle Council to sell of Frederick Samson Park and that it is crown land anyway vested in the City.

Wainwright conceded that the ten-year budget has a suggestion of selling off a part of the land the recreation centre is built on, but that this is unlikely to happen any time soon, and would require State approval as the land title use is for recreational only.

Stan Reilly is going to be part of the Fremantle Oval project and that is still a work in progress. It is mooted t will be modelled on the Claremont Oval development, so we’ll just have to wait and see what the new council will come up with.

Temporary car park only? Really? Budgeted originally as a car park at several hundred thousand dollars and then cutback to the current build cost?
Cannot recall anything about Stan Reilly in budget papers and forecasts apart from being
a car park. May be wrong? Then again placing the Samson Rec Centre in the long term plan is per some councillors only a “suggestion” ? Interesting.

A temporary carpark only but not sure what the long-term plans are as that will be decided when the Fremantle Oval Project is being considered.

What like Stan Reilley that was vested by the State Govt to Fremantle for aged care and is now going to be a car park?

Just the rec centre is mentioned, page 22 of the long term financial plan. So perhaps the candidate is 1/2 right and 1/2 wrong? 😀

Frederick Samson Park is not for sale and is not mentioned. It is stupid scare-mongering.

If it’s mentioned it’s reasonable for the candidate to pose the question.

It’s a thought on how to balance the cost for improvements at the Leisure Centre, etc. Best to read Wainwright’s explanation about that on his Facebook page.

Why have it mentioned in the ten year plan?
