wall of fame

I wonder if the City of Fremantle and Notre Dame University would be interested in collaborating on a Heritage Wall of Fame.

While buildings, builders and architects do get recognition at heritage awards, the custodians of our built heritage rarely get a mention.

I understand that some of our heritage protectors are a bit on the nose with council and developers, but their passionate  and tireless efforts over many years to retain the heritage integrity of Fremantle deserves recognition.

This blank and boring wall in Henry Street would be perfectly suited to put small plaques on that acknowledge such people as Les Lauder, Don Whittington, June Hutchison, John Dowson, etc.

We could start with half a dozen and add a new person every year during Heritage Week.

What about it UNDA Vice Chancellor Celia Hammond and Mayor Brad Pettitt?

a great wall for a 3D piece of public art in vibrant colour would be more appropriate but having said that this building may be earmarked for redevelopment

It sure could do with something! I did quite like the Recognize paste ups that were there for a while.
But I think a wall of fame for those who have contributed to the preservation of the West End of Fremantle in this location is a clever idea and would tell an important story in Freo’s history.
    cheers, Brad

    It’s quite nice inside.

That is a total yuk building!
Who “designed” that? Which owner signed off on it?
What is it? Klu Klux Clan covert headquarters or an ASIO safe house?
How about a target with the designers name on the bulls eye?
