A cluster of six young pine trees were planted on the Fremantle Esplanade yesterday by contractor Environmental Industries.

These trees grow very large, as one can see in the background, so I was surprised about how close they were planted together.

Maybe it’s just a nursery for them to grow to more maturity before they are relocated elsewhere on the reserve?

I’d imagine they’d plant a few and then “thin out” the runts of the little. Common gardening practice!

I do think you are correct about them being too close together. The ID needs to be determined and that can be difficult as often the task is confusing and many times, incorrect. http://davesgarden.com/guides/articles/view/4586#b
I also wonder how they will survive a drunken yobbo attack?
