Freo's View

Posted in april fools, fremantle by freoview on April 1, 2017

No panic Freo, the Kings Square blog this morning was an April Fools, but rewarding to receive a slightly worried SMS from Sirona Capital managing director Matthew McNeilly asking if it was an April Fools.

Also fake news was the didgeridoo story and unfortunately the one about J Shed as well.

Great April Fools also from Freo Sea Rescue who claimed the traffic bridge would become a toll bridge for boats passing underneath it, to pay for repairs.

So welcome to April, one of my favourite months because it has the Fremantle International Street Arts Festival and ANZAC Day.

Oh, Roel, you are such a trickster.

Mind, I have just now (via an encrypted email using the dark net) informed the Russians and Donald Trump ’cause of their interest in fake news.

My reaction to the J Shed retirement was that common sense had finally reigned.

Placing intoxicated patrons next to prestige accommodation (probably with the highest council rates) is just lunacy. The sweetheart deal of a 25 year lease with a three-penny rent was a huge nail in Council’s credibility given that many wee shops in the main streets are paying $80,000 pa rent.

The other nail in Council’s coffin is that they cannot give the Roundhouse a 240 volt electrical outlet. So the Roundhouse was built 1831, Government House was lit 1888 but the first building remains in the dark, surrounded by intoxicated Chitty Chitty Bang Bangs?
