Freo's View

The annual Fremantle Festival starts today with the Wardarnji Aboriginal Festival at the Fremantle Arts Centre from 6.30-8.30 pm. This is a free family event.

I very much like it that our port city festival starts with due recognition of our Whadjuk Noongar culture and history and hope it will become a tradition to start the Fremantle Festival with this indigenous event.

On Saturday and Sunday from 12 noon to 10 pm is the Little Italy by the Sea event at Bathers Beach and the Fishing Boat harbour and on Sunday the traditional Blessing of the Fleet will take place from 2 pm with fireworks at 8 pm.

The Fremantle Festival is a real community festival that showcases our multiculturalism and engagement so make sure to come along and tell your friends.

I also want to acknowledge that this is the first festival in seven years that has not been organised by festival coordinator Alex Marshall, or Marshall Arts as I call him. Alex did a great job but decided to move on, so thanks for all the good work you did!
