Freo's View

hulbert-1 hulbert-2

Is this new building on the corner of Hulbert Street and Douro Road the best architects can come up with for old suburban streets? It is a very average, incoherent looking building that appears more industrial than residential, with old bricks thrown in for some kind of heritage reference, I suppose.

The large balconies on Hulbert Street have industrial looking steel balustrades in a street that has so much community participation and environmental awareness, so I doubt the local community there will feel very happy with this addition to their streetscape. This building is more suited to O’Connor than South Freo and it’s a shame the City of Fremantle approved it.

Steve’s hit the nail on the head. That street was amazing. Unique and full of community and pride. How could anyone let this happen?

Those ugly metal rounded shapes are what throw it out of harmony with the surroundings.
They could get away with the rest. And whobis going to rent the shops when no one is renting a lot of existing shops.

That was mean, I’m sorry for insulting the future residents. Future residents if you read this, please plant some crawling greens, make a green wall or do something freo to make it fit in a bit better.

I quite like it. Better than those brown boxes they are proposing for the CBD

So shithouse. The fact that it’s on Hulbert st is even more ironic. Most hippy st in Freo and they blight it with this modern industrial spewage. Looks like something a first year architecture student would throw together the night before an assignment is due and hope the prof didn’t have time to look at it. Couldn’t be more out of place. Hard to imagine they could have come up with something worse than the abandoned building that was there before it, but they succeeded. I’d be embarrassed to live there.
