Hannah Fitzhardinge today won the Beaconsfield by-election of the City of Fremantle and will the the third female on Fremantle Council.

Only 35.7 per cent of eligible people elected to vote so only a total of 1267 votes were posted.

Hannah Fitzhardinge received 534 votes, Fedele Camarda 363 votes, Andrew Luobikis 279 votes and Peter Cruikshank 91 votes.

The clear message here is that the Fremantle Residents and Ratepayers Association and Fremantle Society, who supported Luobikis, don’t have the support of the community they claim to have, as even Fedele Camarda, who did it all on his own, received more votes than Luobikis.

It will be nice to have another voice of reason and balance on Freo Council and nice to have a female for Beacy next to that macho bloke Dave Hume. ; >)

Congratulations to Hannah Fitzhardinge and the three other candidates. Your passion for Fremantle is laudable!

If I had helped Fedele Carmarda he would have got elected. Great to see Ruth still has a hang up about me.Yes I voted for Fedele as I had already communicated as our families go back a few generations and as I has stated a shame two good candidates in this election

Thanks for the update Roel and congratulations to Hannah Fitzhardinge. I hope she understands that she is elected to work for the ward, the community of Fremantle and not the Labour party. Living in the City ward I feel we are poorly represented with one Councillor here more I suspect because of party links than effectivness as a Councillor. Not sure about the other Counciller; haven’t seen or heard a thing from him.

Given comments elsewhere on your blog it is interesting to hear that the so called “Fremantle Residents and Rate Payers Association” as again failed to much voting support net alone a candiate up. It seems that the community is not so enamoured with them.

    Congratulations to Hannah.
Best wishes to Fedele, Andrew and Peter who put their lives on hold to work for the good of Fremantle.
Contrary to your comments Roel the unduccessful three, are all Independents doing the hard yards with only family and friends as support.
Hannah had the might and power of the Labor Party behind her, indeed accompanying her to public meetings and of course at the Town Hall Count.
When will any Independent be able to compete? You have experienced the same situation yourself Roel when you worked your gutz out last election.
Well done Hannah, I believe you WILL keep your public promises.

I’m delighted that Hannah has won and she will be a great Councillor. I recently read on Facebook that Fedele Camarda had the support of former Mayor Peter Tagliaferri. I don’t call that doing it on his own.
