Freo's View

I watched the very disappointing Time Walks episode by Tony Robinson about Fremantle on ABC TV last night.

I realise that it is probably priceless promotion for our heritage port city but I found it excruciatingly superficial.

As a presenter Tony Robinson is all about look at me, look at me, and his ‘reinactment’ of an historic moment at Fremantle Prison was at best bizarre, if not extremely weird.

I wondered what frantic Robinson was on and if maybe a Viagra pill might have gone the wrong way up to his brain.

It looked like one mad rush when in fact the TV crew would have been in Freo for several days, but the ‘doco’ lacked depth and forgot to mention 50,000 years of indigenous history. Ooops!

Baldrick and his ‘time walks’ are rather ‘under-whelming’.

The same review could be used on this weeks Melbourne episode.

Time Walks is not a ‘cunning plan’.

Baldrick should go back to his turnips.

I absolutely love Tony! He did a series in Britain on a similar vein, and concentrated on a singular event. I thought those episodes where exciting and engaging. I am old enough to remember him in another series called “Blood and Honey” where he tramped over the Holy Land, reenacting Biblical stories.

I haven’t seen this one, but I think it’s just his style of presenting and you can’t fit the whole of Fremantle history into a condensed light entertainment programme.

Hope no taxpayer dollars were wasted on this frenetic blowfly’s visit. He certainly did Fremantle no favours.
