BIBRA LAKE FIRE THREAT TO LIVES AND HOMES

Posted in bushfire, emergency, fremantle by freoview on February 16, 2016

A fire that has been burning near Bibra Lake in the suburb of Coolbellup in Cockburn has been upgraded again at midday as lives and homes are at risk according to FESA.

The fire started at 6 am at Pioneer Park near Progress Drive and is believed to have been deliberately lit.

The students of the nearby Waldorf School had to seek shelter inside the school when the fire broke containment lines mid morning.

I just came back from there and there are a lot of very worried people in the area watching the helicopters and fixed-wing planes dumping water on the fires not far from there homes. There was a strong breeze and that is not helpful.

With the hot weather that was predicted and how dry it was forecast to be you have to wonder why some form of burn off or fuel reduction action wasn’t taken months before

It was the same at the old Kim Beazley site for years over several summers I called council and asked if this are would be mow or have sort action taken to assist in fire prevention
    Action bugger all.
It’s like all these bodies, little concern till it goes up in smoke
Then all the hand wringing starts and how did it happen.
Paul happy to see we agree on one other issue I get pissed off with little shits setting fires too

Deliberately lit – makes me mad!!

I think Roel meant a strong Easterly, which was howling this morning, there isn’t a sea breeze, although the wind in freo has calmed to near nothing (due to the sea breeze effect), and hopefully that will help the fire fighters – good on them. However, large fires can generate their own air currents.
