Freo's View

Posted in fremantle by freoview on October 2, 2012

This is the view tourists to the beautiful city of Fremantle were confronted with at Bathers Beach today. I did not photograph this mess very early but between 1 and 1.30 pm, so when the morning was well gone and cleaners should have been all over the place to make our little city beach pristine again. Cottesloe and Scarborough beaches are cleaned well before the early swimmers and joggers arrive, so why is that not happening in Fremantle? Does anyone care and does anyone actually know what is going on in this city? Where are the managers and supervisors? It’s a bloody disgrace!

ahh… the joys of living in a first world country when an overflowing bin is enough to make people take time out and complain.

The bins were never emptied at all today and the rubbish was never picked up. It is still there this evening.
The crows and seagulls spend the whole day picking the rubbish out of the open lidded new bins. The wind then blew it about.
It was so disgusting, even though it was beautiful day, I don’t think I saw anyone sit down once or linger in the area.
And the area was very busy – but no one stopped to enjoy it – tourist groups were quickly lead through the area – most who saw the mess were from China – our main Tourism market…!
Think about it: The bins were overflowing with only one operating restaurant in the area…
Yesterday was a Public Holiday with a fantastic weather forecast – so it must have been anticipated the area would have been busier than usual?? Yet no extra bins, and no clean up scheduled for the day after a public holiday??
When the weather warms up we will need the little, opened topped, bins emptied several times a day so they don’t fill up, so the seagulls can reach the rubbish in them, so we don’t see a repeat of today’s mess – or replace these bins with bins that will work in this area. The area should be cleaned and rubbish collected at first light, shouldn’t it?.

I saw these bins overflowing yesterday afternoon and again was overwhelmed but today at 4.00pm the bins had not been emptied so took photos to put on my blog. Good to see you are ahead of me Roel, and I agree, where are the managers? My recent comments on the Mayor and yours re lack of leadership are spot on.

It’s well overdue that Freo puts out extra BIG bins for long weekends. You can see from the pics ppl are trying to do the right thing, but those little bins don’t fit the bill.
Come on guys we have some so put them there for long weekends at least;p

Goodness me. That is a disgrace for sure. Certainly not very appealing to visitors and locals alike. While locals my put up with it, it’s the negative word of mouth from visitors we don’t want for our city.
