The Heritage Festival Fremantle Club Crawl, organised by Don Whittington of the Fremantle Society and Ron Davidson, the co-author of the Heritage Award winning Fighting for Fremantle, turned out to be a huge and surprising success with over 80 people attending, amongst them Fremantle Mayor Brad Pettitt and Councillor Andrew Sullivan.

Due to the unforeseen closure of the Workers Club, the crawl only went to the Wyola, Navy and Buffalo Clubs and was enjoyed by many of the younger generations, which was great to see. Club members in all three clubs embraced the event by showing warm hospitality to the invasion of visitors.

It was inappropriate and unfortunate that Wyola Club manager Phil Douglas tried to score cheap political points in his speech, while restraint and being a good host would have been more welcoming.

For many this was the first time they had visited the clubs and some asked if it could be repeated next week, hopefully it can be done again at next year’s Heritage Festival.

I was surprised to find out most people participating in the Club Crawl did not know the Fremantle Jazz Club has professional concerts every Sunday from 4pm at the Navy Club, so for lovers of jazz, go and enjoy it!
