A POOL FULL OF ELECTION PROMISES
The Western Australian state election on March 9 is only two months away, so the politicians are out pork barreling on the beaches. While Premier Colin Barnett wants to build a shark watch tower at his beloved Cottesloe Beach, Labor opposition leader Mark McGowan and Fremantle candidate Simone McGurk announced they would build a 5 million dollar sea pool at Bathers Beach. This is a bit of regurgitating what the City of Fremantle is looking into with a feasibility study for an ocean pool on the way.
I think an ocean pool would attract a lot of people to the west end of Fremantle so that is good, but should it be a priority announcement before the election when we would have preferred to hear about lightrail connecting Fremantle to the universities and the new Fiona Stanley hospital, extending the existing passenger line to Coogee, building more affordable housing, action against crime, violence and anti-social behaviour in our city, and moving more government departments and agencies to Freo so more people will work here and support our local traders, etc. They are the kind of things I expect from our next state government.
